Health is determined by breathing

A person who has little in common with medicine will hardly believe it, but the cause of arteriole hypertension, unknown up to now to physicians, is well-known to physiologists for at least 50 years. It is described in all the manuals for doctors “Normal physiology”.

Normal arteriole gap of a healthy (usually rather young person) is constantly kept at a level by chemical influence upon arteriole walls of carbon dioxide (CO2) dissolved in blood. This substance is permanently produced in every cell of an organism as final product (together with water H2O) of oxidation of hydrocarbons (mainly of glucose). Carbon dioxide is finally secreted from the organism through the lungs. But on the way to the lungs it is contained in blood for some time, playing at the same time the role of a natural regulator of the arteriole gap, i.e. restraining its narrowing.

Normal concentration of CO2 in arterial blood is a necessary condition of normal arteriole tone. When the concentration of CO2 in arterial blood is appreciably reduced, the arteriole gap gets noticeably narrower.

In spite of the obviousness of the cause of arterial hypertension from the point of view of physiology, for medicine the cause of hypertension poses an unsolved mystery from 1911 and up to now. Meanwhile, in any manual “Normal physiology” it is indicated that carbon dioxide that is contained in blood is a natural vasodilator, i.e. a substance that has a dilator effect upon minor blood vessels. It is pretty easy to make a supposition that the real cause of essential hypertension is nothing but deficient concentration in arterial blood of the substance, which can naturally prevent arteriole narrowing – a natural vasodilator (vasodilating agent) – carbon dioxide CO2.

But why during the last decades none of medical scientists managed to make such a supposition, check it up and make sure that the supposition was correct. Meanwhile it is extremely easy to prove the statement that the prime cause of hypertension is exactly deficient concentration of CO2 in arterial blood. One has only to compare the amount of CO2 in arterial blood of hypertensive patients and that of healthy people. This is what Russian physiologists did at the beginning of the nineties.

The research of gas blood composition of large groups of people of different ages let the scientists make a single conclusion stating arteriole hypertension as the reason of constant microvessel spasm. One can read about the research and its results in the abovementioned book “The physiological role of carbon dioxide and efficiency of a person”. The arterial blood of the overwhelming majority of examined elderly people in quiescent state contains about 3,6-4,5 % ŃÎ2 (when the rate is 6-6,5%).

Thus it was actually proved that the prime cause of many chronic diseases of elderly people is the fact that their organism loses its ability to maintain the normal content of CO2 (about 6-6,5%) in their arterial blood. It is a well-known physiologic axiom that arterial blood of young people contains 6-6,5% of CO2.

On what does the concentration of CO2 in blood depend?

Carbon dioxide CO2 is permanently produced in the body cells. The process of its removal from the organism through the lungs is under close control of respiratory center – the brain section regulating the process of breathing. Lungs ventilation (frequency and depth of breathing) of healthy people is organized in such a way, that every moment after removal of the excess of CO2, the amount that is left in arterial blood is not lower than 6%. Really healthy (in physiological sense) organism doesn't let the concentration of CO2 get lower than 6% or higher than 6,5%.

Hypocapnia – permanent deficiency in CO2 – is the main cause of essential hypertension – arteriole hypertension.

While a person is young and moves a lot (sports, games, discos, etc.) his/her respiration rate corresponds to the physiological standards and makes up 2-4 liters per minute in quiescent state. But as times go by as a result of stress and slow-moving life-style the respiration rate gradually increases. And by the age of 50-60 the respiration rate of the majority of people runs up to 8-12 liters per minute what is 2-3 times higher than the norm.

Superfluous lungs ventilation leads to superfluous removal of CO2 from arterial blood. For example when the respiration rate is 10 liters per minute there is only 4% of CO2 in arterial blood in quiescent state. This is easily proved by gas analysis of blood. Abnormally low amount of CO2 in arterial blood provokes constant considerable arteriole spasm – arterial hypertension that leads to essential hypertension.

The same reason – “incorrect breathing” resulting in respiratory tract (bronchial tubes) spasm, is a possible cause of asthma.

The discovery of the prime cause of hypertension spurred to the search of its prevention. The device that was meant for elimination of hypertension causes was patented in 1998. It became one of the fundamental parts of the “Samozdrav” complex.
